And the winner is...
All good things must come to an
end. And for one lucky winner, that end means a Napa Valley trip of
a lifetime.
We received over 300 heartwarming
Bottle Shock story submissions and we loved reading every one of them.
We were delighted to read stories from people in every corner of the
world, all sharing their experiences of the night they watched Bottle
Shock. As you can imagine, we had a really hard time picking a winner
but we finally chose a poem from Tammy Dunbar, a 5th grade teacher from
the Lodi Wine country that captured why we all loved the movie so much.
Poem by Tammy Dunbar, Bottle Shock Stories Contest Winner
With quiet rooms and an empty nest,
What wine with dinner would go best?
We made pesto with home-grown basil,
Cooked fresh linguini with little hassle,
Pan-fried the shrimp in garlic butter,
Around the kitchen did we flutter!
A deep-green artichoke with dip;
The question remained: what would we sip?
After long and thoughtful, deep reflection,
We both agreed on our selection:
For our meal, we'd make a star
Of a California Pinot Noir
From Anthill Farms, you must have heard
Of this terrific vintner in Healdsburg.
With happy palate and food sublime,
What movie would go with our wine?
We'd heard good things of "Bottle Shock,"
Which starred Chris Pine (a friend of Spock)
And another former SciFi actor,
Who was now on a Quest of another factor.
Alan Rickman! A gift from up above!
(Him I truly, madly, deeply love!)
On our comfy couch, we watched the show,
Glad we were not sipping any darned Merlot!
Aren't the French just so bourgeois,
To think superior their Gualish terroir?
Hurrah for Steven, surname Spurrier,
Who willingly acted as our courier,
Taking enough California wines
To compete with those snobby, Gallic vines.
The outcome was more than the French could bear:
A California wine had won? Quelle horreur!
We lifted our glasses to toast the win ...
Let's open that Lodi Old Vine Zin!
Or maybe the Cab from Amador?
Or the Karmere Syrah, which I adore.
Or the Sonoma Chardonnay might be great!
Or the sparkling Schramsberg to celebrate!
Then we saw our celebration was two-fold:
There were still two of us in our household.
So raise your glass, be of good cheer:
There's no empty nest, for we're still here!
Here's what Tammy said when she found out she'd won:
"A
poem seemed a fitting entry for the Bottle Shock contest, since it's a
movie about poetic justice. Plus I love writing poems about things I
enjoy and meaningful moments in my life.
Bottle
Shock was a deliciously satisfying movie that was just a lot of fun to
watch. Who better to lead us into battle with the French than the
president who helped us beat the aliens, Bill Pullman? And what better
person to organize such an important event than the man who is always
so "serious about the craft," Alan Rickman? Plus, we beat the French. What could be a better ending than that?
My
mouth fell open when I found out I won the Bottle Shock contest. To
borrow your phrase, I was literally Bottle Shocked! My husband and I
toasted the win with a Cosentino Cabernet Sauvignon that we'd been
saving. We have been to Napa Valley many times before, touring by car,
on bicycles and on foot. We're looking forward to an entirely unique
experience and are delighted you have made it all possible. Thank you!"
